Andhra Pradesh voting percentage: State records 76.69% voter turnout

Bearing the heat, withstanding the long queues and defying all the other odds, the voters in Andhra Pradesh turned out in large numbers to cast their vote and elect their leaders for the 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies across the state. Reportedly, the state has registered a voter turnout of 76.69 percentage, which is being viewed as a heartening figure, given the issues faced at several polling booths across the state on Thursday. It may be noted that the voting percentage in Andhra Pradesh was reported to be close to 78.7% in 2014.

The districts of Vizianagaram and Prakasam, with a voter turnout of 85% each, reported the highest poll percentage among the thirteen districts in Andhra Pradesh. On the other hand, the poll percentages in Visakhapatnam, West Godavari, and Kadapa, stood at 70% each. The voting percentage in Visakhapatnam was close to 71.3% in 2014.

The polling in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday was marred by complaints of EVM glitches and incidents of violence at a few polling booths. While the former caused delay and confusion in the voting process, brawls between different party members led to panic among the voters in some areas. However, the voters were visibly determined to make their vote count. In fact, the polling went on till late midnight at a few places.

With different parties exuding confidence over the result, it will be interesting to see who will manage to come out with flying colours. The final vote count is scheduled to be done on 23 May.

Here is the voting percentage of the 13 districts in Andhra Pradesh.
