Currently leading the country with 9.19 lakh LED lights installed in urban and rural areas of the country, Andhra Pradesh is gunning at a world record by installing 30 lakh LED lights across the state.
Reportedly, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said that 15 lakh LED lights (out of the total 30 lakh LED lights) would be installed in the rural areas soon, thereby helping the state emerge as one of the most energy-efficient ones in the country.
According to a press release by the government’s media adviser (energy) A. Chandra Sekhar Reddy, the programme, apart from changing the appearance of villages and enabling brighter streets, would also create a sense of security and safety among the residents.
It is also expected that the programme would result in a net financial benefit of approximately Rs 500 crore and energy savings of 333 MU in the next 10 years.
Minister for Information Technology, Panchayati Raj and Rural Development for Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh has reportedly instructed the Principal Secretary (PR&RD) to execute the programme by adopting a speedy mechanism. The minister also suggested that the PR&RD, Energy Efficiency Services Limited, AP-DISCOMs, AP-State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation and New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of A.P. chalk out an action plan in regard to the s. me.
Mr Reddy stated that Andhra Pradesh currently tops the country in Street Light National Programme (SLNP), followed by Gujarat, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh respectively.
