The government of Andhra Pradesh is looking to lead the way in the use of electric vehicles in the country. Reportedly, the authorities are planning to launch 1 lakh Electric Vehicles (EVs). It is also expected that this would lead to a creation of as many as 1.05 lakh jobs in the state.
It has been reported that the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has agreed in principle to invest a whopping 10,250 crore in AP with Rs 2,000 crore to be invested per year for one lakh e-cars in Andhra Pradesh.
A.Chandra Sekhar Reddy, State Energy Conservation Mission CEO, said the project is aimed at transforming the state into the country’s electric mobility hub.
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, while speaking at a teleconference with Energy Department officials on Sunday, directed the concerned officials to chalk out a comprehensive plan to lease and use one lakh electric vehicles in a phased manner.
“All government departments should go for e-vehicles which would later extend to the private sector as well. AP state, which has been ranked number one in the Ease of Doing Business, energy efficiency, promotion of renewable energy sources, 24X7 quality power supply, is now focusing on attaining number 1 position in the world in the usage of electric vehicles. We should create a world record even in usage of e-vehicles,” the CM was quoted as saying.
The recently concluded CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam also witnessed the Chief Minister flag off two electric vehicles at the event.
