#1 YouTube was created by former employees of Paypal

The online video sharing platform was created by three former PayPal employees- Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, in February 2005.

#2 YouTube was a dating site initially

This is something which will make you say “wow, I didn’t know this”. The founders didn’t come straight to the “YouTube concept”. Initially, it was a dating site ‘Tune In Hook Up’ said to be influenced by HotorNot.

#3 First YouTube video

The nineteen-second video was shot at the San Diego Zoo on April 23, 2005, featuring co-founder Jawed Karim with an elephant.

#4 Stat Fact

All the YouTubers combinedly watch 6 billion hours of videos every month. Breaking the stat further, each day, 4 billion YouTube videos are watched each day!

#5 Longest video

Jonathan Harchick had created and uploaded the platform’s longest video of all time, clocking in at 571 hours, 1 minute and 41 seconds.

#6 Gangnam style

When we talk about YouTube, we can’t miss talking about Gangnam style, can we? This video was so popular, it broke YouTube’s view counter, which had to be upgraded later.

#7 The most searched

The most searched video the video-sharing site is “how to kiss” followed by “how to tie a tie.”

#8 Can I get one million dislikes- Phew!

PewDiePie is a Swedish YouTube personality who came up with a video “can I get one million dislikes”. People took it seriously and it stands as the fourth most disliked video with 3.34 million dislikes.

#9 Every minute, more than 100 hours of content is uploaded to YouTube

That’s more than four days of video uploaded each minute! Every month, more than 1 billion people come to YouTube to access news, answer questions and have “fun” in their own way. That’s almost one out of every two people on the internet!

#10 April fools

The video sharing platform features an April fools prank on the site on April 1st of every year. The first prank on the site was uploaded on April 1st, 2008, all links to videos on the main page were redirected to Rick Astley’s music video “Never gonna give you up” and this prank went viral by the name “rickrolling”.
