In yet another case of a hit-and-run accident in Visakhapatnam, a two-wheeler was hit by a lorry on Thursday. This happened when a husband-wife couple were travelling on their scooty in the Autonagar area. Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries and died on the spot. The police are on the lookout for the lorry driver who ran away from the accident spot.
The victim has been identified as Aruna, a 42-year-old woman who was residing with her husband at Datta Sai Nagar, Gajuwaka. Her husband, Srinivasa Rao was able to survive the accident, incurring minor injuries.
According to Gajuwaka Police, the couple were travelling on their scooty when a lorry came from behind. The lorry driver managed to avoid the four-wheeler in front but was then heading towards the scooty. Srinivasa Rao tried to move out of the lorry’s way by stopping the scooty at the side of the road but he slipped and fell in the mud. The speeding lorry went over Aruna, killing her instantly.
On receiving info about the accident, the police arrived at the spot and took the dead body for post-mortem. A case of hit-and-run has been registered and the police are searching for the lorry driver.
A similar case of lorry hit-and-run accident had been reported earlier in the month at Kurmannapalem Junction in Visakhapatnam where a 47-year-old woman had died and her husband had survived.
