144 Private Schools to be Shut Down in Vizag

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao, meeting with the education officials, has decided to shut down 144 unrecognised private schools in the district of Visakhapatnam. A task force team led by joint collector-  D Venkata Rao has been constituted to inspect schools and the norms followed them. The Minister said, soon such inspections will be carried out in other districts too.

In a conference with the media, The Minister said, among the 144 schools that were listed to shut down, 57 are primary schools and 87 are high schools. DEO was pulled up by him for not taking any action on the schools that are running without mandatory recognition. The task force team will also examine the fee structure of the schools and if found unreasonable, the schools will face the music.

The decision to shut these schools down was taken on Sunday and on day one – Monday, 32 schools around the district were seized from activity.
