
The deep depression in the Bay of Bengal, which triggered heavy rain and strong winds in several parts of North Andhra on 2 October, crossed the coast near Gopalpur in Odisha in the night.
According weather office, it will weaken gradually and under its influence, heavy rain is likely in the three districts of Srikakulam, Parvathipuram and Vizianagaram.
The rain, accompanied by gales, caused extensive damage in Srikakulam district and several rivers are in spate.
In Visakhapatnam, where several trees fell and electric poles got damaged, the GVMC staff cleared the trees fallen on roads, while the electricity personnel restored power supply by night.
Meanwhile, State Home Minister Anitha, while taking stock of the situation, directed the officials to be alert as rain has been forecast even after the deep depression crossed the coast. She directed the officials to be alert round the clock.
