A1 No: Pingali Venkayya made the first version of India’s current national flag in 1921 at Bezawada. This version only had two colours: red and green, representing the two major Indian communities. However, Gandhiji suggested the addition of a third white-coloured strip for remaining communities. The symbol of the spinning wheel was also added to symbolize the progress of the nation.

A2 No: Khadi Development and Village Industries Commission is the sole unit licensed for production and supply of Indian flags. While for a long time flags were made from Jayadhar, a popular cotton variety that grows in Karnataka, Khadi Gramaudyoga has now started using Bt cotton instead.

A3 No: India has no national language. As per Article 343 of the Constitution, India’s official language is Hindi.

A4 No: At the time of independence, India had 562 princely states. These were politically integrated under Indian democracy over decade post independence, with Sardar Vallabhai Patel and VP Menon playing a major role in doing so.

A5 No: Any material that uses hand-spun yarn and is hand-woven on a handloom without using electricity is khadi and can be present in silk, cotton or wool. Because it is done by hand completely, the small weaving errors occur, giving Khadi a unique texture. It also has the quality of keeping you cool in summer and warm in winters.
