How many times have we come across horrific road accidents caused by careless motorists? Naked Wolves are here, working towards bringing a change. Riding For Safety Road accidents are on the rise, and not only do these gory occurrences cause loss of lives but they also create an irreplaceable void in the families of the departed. The group A biking community has come to the fore to try and curb the damage. Naked Wolves is an international biking community that was started in Bengaluru five years ago by Arjun Shankar, a passionate biker. Comprising of bike riders, the group strives to spread safety awareness among rash riders. It insists on the importance of donning safety gear to minimize the consequences of an unfortunate accident. A community exclusive for the riders of Bajaj Pulsar NS 200, it thrives under the slogan of “One Bike One Brotherhood”. Naked Wolves, having gained momentum over time, is spread across 18 cities in India and 4 countries such as of Nepal, Indonesia, Philippines, and Mexico. City focus Thanks to Pavan Kumar, a BBM graduate, this group has begun extending its trails into Vizag as well. He took the initiative four months ago and speaks about the community’s journey and the scenario in Vizag. Pavan says that the current road safety situation in Vizag is not at all heartening. He feels that, above all, it is the careless and casual attitude of the rider that leads to a terrible accident. Also that the majority of the rash riders in the city are college students who drive their vehicles quite recklessly. Initiatives To help minimize accidents, Pavan, and his current group of 35 members, conduct regular interactions with students of various colleges in Vizag. Here, they educate the students on different safety measures that need to be taken while driving. The youngsters are even encouraged to take the onus of creating a safe riding space for everyone. The group also organises safety rallies and awareness campaigns to enlighten the public. All the members participate in these campaigns by sporting a fully equipped safety gear. Pavan feels that true bike lovers would never let anything happen to their machines. Therefore an example needs to be set for others, by riding with safety gear. He adds that when purchasing an expensive bike, the safety gear should also be an equally important concern. Having faced many obstacles in this short span, Pavan envisions an accident-free Vizag. While the road to achieving this goal is not easy, he and his spirited team are up for the challenge.
